The great live music restarts from the Florentine May

by admin

“It almost seems that Prime Minister Draghi did the planning.” Alexander Pereira, superintendent of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, is excited and happy: the inauguration of the 83rd edition of the Festival – one of the oldest and most prestigious in Europe – long ago set for April 26, and broadcasted in streaming and in live broadcast on Radio3 Rai, will also take place live, and will mark the reopening of Italian theaters after the second and third waves of the pandemic.

Stravinsky on the program

It is a surprise linked to the latest Covid decree law, which set the reopening of the theaters in the Yellow areas starting from April 26, with a number of spectators set at 50% of the capacity of the hall, with a maximum of 500 people indoors. (and 1,000 outdoors). The musical Maggio room can hold 1,800 people, and therefore the spectators will be 500. Maestro Daniele Gatti will go up on the podium, to direct the choir and orchestra of the Florentine Maggio Musicale in a symphonic concert dedicated to the composer Igor Stravinskij, in the 50th anniversary of his death. The program includes two symphonies that were written for the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of two great American orchestras, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra: the Symphonie de Psaumes and the Symphony in C. The following day, April 27, the Maggio Musicale will also inaugurate the opera program with the opera Adriana Lecouvreur by Francesco Cilea.

Spacing and masks

«The reopening of the theaters coincides exactly with that of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino – underlined the superintendent Pereira – and I am very grateful to Draghi for this“ fantastic direction ”, symbol of a great victory. After many months of activity carried out in an empty room, with the shows broadcast in streaming and recorded, the theater therefore starts again applying the safety procedures: spacing, sanitation, masks. Maestro Daniele Gatti returns to Maggio after the symphonic concert last Easter which can still be seen in streaming on the theater website (he has already registered more than 14,000 views). “For me it is a great pleasure to come back and be here in Maggio to inaugurate the Festival in a moment that is still difficult: the music has been going on in fits and starts for more than a year, but it has never died”.
