After two consecutive years of suppression in the United States, Huawei’s advanced process chips no longer dare to be foundry by the company, and the latest 5nm Kirin 9000 processor is out of print. However, Huawei does not intend to abandon HiSilicon. A team of more than 7,000 people is still developing high-end chips. For other companies, it is unacceptable to maintain a semiconductor department with more than 7,000 people and fail to generate revenue in a short period of time. However, Huawei executives said in an interview a few days ago that they are private companies that are not affected by external forces and will not give up HiSilicon.
HiSilicon was founded in 2004, and its predecessor was Huawei’s chip design department. In recent years, it has developed advanced mobile phone processors for Huawei and is considered to be one of the most advanced chip design companies in the world.
As a result of sanctions, Huawei HiSilicon’s chips are no longer produced by a company. The revenue for the Q1 quarter was only US$385 million, a decrease of 87% from the same period last year.
However, Huawei executives said in the interview that HiSilicon will continue to develop semiconductor chips. In the next two or three years, I can handle it with ease.
According to news in May, Huawei’s HiSilicon department is still designing and developing 3nm chips, and the final name may be Kirin 9010.
