Quinta de Chocapalha is a family project of the Lisbon Region with a long history of wine activity and which opens its doors to anyone who wants to visit them and learn about their wines. Quinta de Chocapalha, Quinta de Sant’Ana and Quinta do Monte d’Oiro are three family producers in the Lisbon wine region, brought together in a common project that aims to channel common synergies in order to promote their wines. The three estates share their approach to winemaking and the desire to build a closer relationship with the final consumer, sharing the passion and knowledge of the territory. The bond between these three families, who have known each other for a long time, emerged at a strategic moment in which they decided to spread what the Lisbon region has to offer, as well as its specificities, its riches and complexity, its history. and modernity. Working together, the Lisbon family’s vineyards believe they have much more to offer, maximizing the characteristics that the three estates already have in common: they produce gastronomic wines whose quality is awarded nationally and internationally; they are three family farms whose personalized wines enhance the specific territory of each estate; can be visited, as they are less than 1 hour from the city of Lisbon. Located between 30 and 50 km north of Lisbon, the three Estates are strongly influenced by the Atlantic: large temperature variations and gentle sea breezes give the wines a unique freshness and minerality.

The Tenuta Quinta de Chocapalha

It all started in 1987 when Alice and Paulo were looking for a property that would become their family project and where they could produce high quality wine. Of the total 70 hectares, 46 are planted with vineyards. The Pêra Rocha pear orchard, with Protected Designation of Origin ‘Pêra Rocha do Oeste’, occupies 4.5 hectares and the remaining area is composed of various woods, some of which are extremely ancient, presumably the oldest date back to the 14th century , and the olive trees create a boundary along the boundaries of the estate.

The white varieties are Arinto, Viosinho, Gouveio, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The red varieties are Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Castelão, Syrah, Touriga Franca, Alicante Bouschet, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
However, the harvest is only the final phase of a continuous cycle. The painstaking work to obtain the best quality grapes, a mandatory requirement to achieve one’s goals, begins practically after the harvest.
The grape harvest follows precise criteria, established to obtain the best qualitative results, based on the ripening stage of the fruit. Harvesting is done separately, variety by variety and plot by plot.

The Heritage Hotels

AS JANELAS VERDES – The As Janelas Verdes hotel (ie “green windows”) is located next to the National Art Museum, in a small late 19th century building, and offers a romantic and welcoming atmosphere. Eça de Queirós, one of the most famous Portuguese novelists, also found inspiration here; the memory of his presence lives on in the many art objects scattered around the rooms, in the books, paintings and objects that bring the imagination back to other eras. All the rooms are sunny and lively, the Tagus is just a step away, in spring the day begins with a wonderful breakfast served in the garden, while enjoying the tranquility of the Lisbon of yesteryear.

HOTEL BRITANIA – Located in a building designed in the 1940s by the famous Portuguese architect Cassiano Branco, it is in many ways a unique hotel that looks a lot like an exclusive club. It has been restored enhancing its original Art Deco style, so as to combine the environment that recalls the exquisite original period atmosphere with the comforts and comforts required today in a high-level hotel. The rooms are spacious and in warm colors, furnished with splendid classic furniture; the bathrooms, original, are in marble, restored down to the smallest detail.

HOTEL LISBOA PLAZA – A stone’s throw from Avenida da Liberdade, it is a “classic” among the best hotels in the Portuguese capital. The interior decoration was recently renovated by the architect Sofia Duarte Fernandes in a very light Portuguese style, keeping the classic imprint and the family spirit. Some details hint at the fashion of the time of the opening of the hotel in the 1950s and ethnic motifs enliven the new curtains. In half of the rooms the original parquet floors have been recovered, while new carpets have been placed in the other half to meet the various needs of the guests.

SOLAR DO CASTELO – During the second half of the 18th century a beautiful stately home was built within the walls of the castle of San Giorgio, on the land where the former kitchens of the Alcacova Palace once stood. That is why it is still known by the name of Palacete das Cozinhas (“Palace of the Kitchen”). The structure combines elements of Pombal’s rationalist style (the sober window frames and the main entrance) with others that express greater freedom. The palace, classified as a historical building, has been transformed into a hotel and restored to its former glory thanks to a high quality contemporary design.

HERITAGE AVENIDA LIBERDADE – The latest addition to the Hoteis Heritage Lisboa chain is located on the main street, Avenida da Liberdade. Its design bears the signature of Miguel Câncio Martins, a Portuguese architect famous for his work in legendary places such as the Buddha Bar or the Thiou in Paris, the Strictly Hush in London and the Man Ray in New York. The external aspect of the building has been left unchanged, while the interiors are inspired by the urban residences of the Portuguese bourgeoisie. The rooms are in full balance between tradition and modernity and have a personalized style. In the lobby, Câncio Martins has created an atmosphere that recalls the Portuguese “way of life”, once again poised between past and future. Objective: to create a style that has its roots in the Lusitanian and Lisboet identities.
