The permanent table on the price of milk is born

by admin

An inter-professional body that, through stable appointments, brings together all the players in the milk supply chain, from the agricultural phase to distribution, with the aim of monitoring the increase in production costs and gradually addressing critical issues. It is with this promise that the national table on the price of milk, organized by Minister Patuanelli at the request of agricultural associations, in particular Coldiretti, closed on Thursday 30 September at the Ministry of Agriculture. A supply chain agreement is needed to guarantee an adequate price to producers, the minister reiterated today at the table, which took place via videoconference.

“For farmers, we are talking about an increase in costs that in 2021 alone amounted to 2.4 cents per liter, without taking into account the imminent price increases that will arrive on the energy front – the president of Copagri, Franco Verrascina said yesterday at the table. – translated into figures, this is an average loss of almost 250 million euros for the current year ». For these reasons Copagri, in addition to the creation of a permanent technical table, has asked for the identification of a new regulatory framework “which takes into account Community developments and stimulates the economic-financial planning of a fair price”.

For some time Coldiretti has been asking for an increase in the minimum price of milk at the stable: “Our proposal – said its president, Ettore Prandini – must be concretely brought into everyday reality to make it operational as early as October to save the stables. squeezed in the grip of the rising prices of raw materials ». Even the president of Confagricoltura, Massimiliano Giansanti, is convinced that “we cannot go on if the product from the stable reaches a lower price than the production price. We appreciated the recent effort by Mipaaf which allocated 26 million from the Agricultural Supply Chains Fund to the dairy cow breeding sector. However, much more needs to be done: we could act on the fiscal lever, lowering the VAT rate and favoring innovation and research for new pharmaceutical, nutritional and cosmetic markets ».

On the other side of the table, processing companies are asking for regulatory simplifications, which would allow significant savings for those who produce and processors, alongside the cancellation of taxes such as plastic and sugar tax, which will come into force in January with negative effects on prices. of products on the market. “This violent sting has involved all our production factors – said the president of Assolatte, Paolo Zanetti – from energy (+ 18.4%) to transport, from plastic (+ 61.4%) to wood (+ 62%) to cardboard (+ 22.1%), up to freight rates (+ 214%) for exports. Aware of the fact that many families have lived through difficult times, for many months we have taken on all the increases, but now the situation has become unsustainable. Structural interventions are urgently needed to avoid the collapse of the national milk system ».
