The Porsche SUV that becomes a supercar

by admin

Here is the first Porsche-signed hyper-suv. It is called the Cayenne Turbo Gt and is a model that derives from the Coupé version and can be conceptually compared to the more performing 911s, that is, the Gt3 and the Rs.

In fact, the Turbo Gt is powered by the most powerful non-electrified 4-liter twin-turbo V8 ever made by Porsche, delivering 640 horsepower. The stable exceeds that contained in the analogous unit of the Cayenne Coupé Turbo by 90 horsepower. Some may argue that it is not enough to outperform the 680 horsepower of the Turbo S E-Hybrid but, in that case, it is the result of the electric aid and is not aimed at pure performance. In fact, the Turbo Gt has been developed to move with equal ease both between the curbs of a track and on normal roads.

For this reason, the Cayenne is placed in a particular area among hyper-suvs, also different from that in which models of similar power and similar price of other brands of the Volkswagen group are placed, such as the Audi Rs Q8 and the Lamborghini Urus. A connotation also certified by the indispensable record, absolute for the SUV category, grabbed by this Porsche at the Nurburgring.

The character of the new record holder stands out, above all, by looking at its B side from which the two large central titanium exhaust system tailpipes emerge, since the other ingredients that differentiate it from any other Cayenne Coupé blend harmoniously into the line. In fact, the 22 “wheels are not surprising, which integrate the lowered set-up of 17 mm compared to that of the Turbo version recognizable only by a well-trained eye, which also bring with them a slight widening of the wheel arches, and not even the thin aerodynamic appendages and the carbon finishes scattered throughout the bodywork. You don’t even notice the carbon roof and, when the Turbo Gt is stationary, the larger active rear spoiler to better attach it to the ground at higher speeds. The essence of motorsport, invisible but consistent, is the result of an incisive refinement both of each mechanical component and of the electronics, which is entrusted with the task of managing the Turbo Gt in the most appropriate way to the setting set both when it is quiet and when it has to go wild. Let’s clear away any doubts immediately: from the driver’s seat the two very different souls of this Cayenne satisfy in equal measure. They are linked by the unparalleled tone of the V8 that enters the passenger compartment, configured with four seats and in which the sixth generation of the Porsche infotainment system makes its debut, but obviously not by the volume with which it manifests itself.

The most thunderous is produced by the determination with which the V8 takes turns when it is stressed up to almost 7,000 meters to give powerful progressions. Obviously, the performance enhances the involvement of the driver, as observed in the raid on the track on the Swedish island of Gotland, where the effects of the restorative treatment have fully emerged both in terms of pure performance and dynamism and also reliability. These factors form a picture that not only does not reserve unexpected surprises, but is capable of surprising all-round because when the Turbo Gt becomes fast and furious it favors the naturalness of driving (almost) like normal daily gaits.
