The project has not yet started, but at the National School of Transport and Logistics in La Spezia they are working with the aim of launching a course for truck drivers that fills the gap of the shortage that the logistics sector has been dealing with for months.

«We have received many requests from road haulage companies – explains Federica Catani, director of the school – the companies are so interested that they are willing to agree to an employment commitment and therefore we would like to carry out a pilot training project with an obligation to hire soon. We are working on a path that not only has the purpose of obtaining a driving license, but is also an orientation initiative, knowledge of job opportunities, of reference companies. In this way, in our training offer, alongside port operators, railway workers, shipping technicians, logistic manager, we would also have drivers: from those who work in the square to those who work in the office, a plurality of figures that make up the entire logistics chain ».

Established in 1991 in La Spezia, on the initiative of the local Chamber of Commerce, after a study by Unioncamere which highlighted the lack of a structured presidium at national level for training in the logistics and transport sector, the school has been training professionals for thirty years. for the economy of the sea, from the managerial level, with the logistic managershipping technicians, customs officers, maritime mediation technicians up to the port terminal operators who work on the quay.

With more than 29 thousand people trained in the last 10 years, 141,931 hours and offices also in Genoa and Marina di Carrara (whose port, with La Spezia, is part of the Eastern Ligurian Sea System Authority), the school offers courses for both those who are already employed both for those looking for work and also range on safety issues. It is also a recognized center for training in the railway sector and carries out commissioned studies.

Among the 30 members who are part of it, there are associations, organizations and companies which, in addition to providing a barometer of market needs, are increasingly asking for training and are committed to guaranteeing internships and hiring.
