The unions: “Shops closed in Sicily on Sundays and holidays or it will be a strike”

The request to the Region of Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil for “greater protection of the health and safety of workers, workers and the whole community”

The trade unions insist and return to ask Sicily to close shops on Sundays and holidays, otherwise they are ready to proclaim a trade strike for the days of 24, 25 and 30 April and for 1 May.

Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl and Uiltucs Uil in a note sent to the president of the Region, Nello Musumeci, to the president of Anci Sicilia, Leoluca Orlando and to the prefectures, reiterated the need to “close the shops for the whole day on Sundays and holidays” and to “bring forward the closing time from Monday to Saturday, for all businesses, for greater protection of the health and safety of workers, workers and the whole community”.

The general secretaries Monia Caiolo, Mimma Calabrò and Marianna Flauto recall that “these measures would have the merit of not frustrating all the efforts made to date in an attempt to contain the risk of spreading the Covid-19 virus. It would also help to ease the workloads and stress accumulated by the thousands of workers in the organized distribution sector, who during the lockdown guaranteed a defined essential service, despite being continuously exposed to the risk of contagion, with the fear, now, of to relive that period again and thus jeopardize not only their own health, but also that of their families ».

For the trade unions, the closure would also be useful to “avoid the deregulation of recent months, in which different regional and municipal ordinances have alternated. Furthermore, the anticipation of the closing time would be a security measure also against possible external aggressions by malicious people, considering that already in the late afternoon the cities are empty and commerce is a sector with a prevalent female presence “.
