They are missing from wood to resin to electronic components. Not even the nautical world, which has just closed a year of double-digit growth, with record-breaking orderbooks, is immune from the perfect storm that sum increases costs and a very long time to have the materials and parts for the construction of yachts, megayachts and sailboats.
«The chain coming from the Far East is slowing down the deliveries of everything that is electronic and partly motorized, which is very electronized. The raw materials, fiberglass, resin and complaints are all late in delivery due to the warehouses that were empty with the Covid crisis and were not adequately supplied, so now we find ourselves in a situation where we have consumed everything there was. in stock and again we suffer a slowdown in supplies ». Barbara Amerio, CEO of the Permare family group and president of the superyacht section of Confindustria nautica as well as of the industrialists of Imperia, warns that the situation is difficult.
«The most striking thing is the price increases – he says – that we pay as construction sites because maybe we already have closed prices with customers. So we have to totally absorb them. And sometimes they are also quite unjustified, not explainable for all materials. We are also monitoring them as a supply chain and as an association so that it does not become a problem to be faced in the coming years, when there will still be deliveries of boats already sold with contracts already signed and closed ».
There is also concern about the difficulty in having the materials for the construction of yachts in the yard, with the risk of a ripple effect. “It slows us down on deliveries. But we hope that the delays will then be compressed if not canceled – hopes Amerio – it is a problem of organization of the supply chain ».
