The sales data released by the Passenger Vehicle Market Information Joint Conference shows that in April 2022, the nationwide wholesale sales of passenger vehicles in the narrow sense reached 946,000 units, a year-on-year decrease of 43.0%; the wholesale sales of manufacturers from January to April reached 6.386 million units, a year-on-year growth rate. Specifically, the sales rankings of passenger car manufacturers changed a lot in April. The top three sales were BYD Auto, Geely Auto, and GAC Toyota, with wholesale volumes of 105,000, 72,000, and 69,000 respectively. As FAW-Volkswagen almost stopped production in the first half of April, its production and sales performance was seriously affected, and the championship was taken away by BYD. At the same time, it is worth noting that some companies still maintain a growth trend in such a dismal environment of sales. BYD increased by 134.3% year-on-year, GAC Aeon increased by 23% year-on-year, and Dongfeng Fengshen increased by 25% year-on-year. BYD’s bold move to stop the production of fuel vehicles not only did not affect sales, but instead released more production capacity for BYD. The previous situation of BYD’s shortage of supply will also be alleviated, surpassing FAW-Volkswagen for the first time this month. Among the top ten manufacturers, only BYD Yiqi Juechen saw a year-on-year increase in sales of more than 134%, while Geely Auto, which is also an independent brand, fell by 28.1% year-on-year, and Changan Automobile fell by 42.3% year-on-year. GAC Toyota performed well among a number of joint venture brands, with sales of 68,000 vehicles in April, down 7.3% year-on-year, ranking third. However, Dongfeng Nissan, which is also a Japanese brand, was not satisfactory, with sales of 41,000 vehicles in April, a year-on-year decrease of nearly 55%. GAC Honda and Dongfeng Honda were also unable to escape the decline, with year-on-year declines of 66.4% and 79.7% respectively. At the same time, the former top-selling FAW-Volkswagen fell by 62%, and its ranking jumped to fifth place. SAIC Volkswagen and SAIC-GM under the SAIC Group both fell by more than 70%.
