Tourism starts again but now we need to push on digital, services and infrastructures

by admin

Tourism gives Italy wings and pushes the country to restart after the terrible months of Covid. The first “Forum in masseria” event wanted and conducted by Bruno Vespa at the “Li Reni” farm in Manduria, Tarantino, on this is agreed a large parterre ranging from the president of Confindustria, Carlo Bonomi, to the ministers Massimo Garavaglia ( Turismo) and Mara Carfagna (South), by the managing directors of Mediocredito centrale, Bernardo Mattarella, and Leonardo, Alessandro Profumo, to the president of the CNR, Maria Chiara Carrozza. The chosen theme is innovation and tourism. A combination that is not accidental because in it you can see two important levers for recovery.

Bonomi: we will grow more than 5%

And what a recovery it will be after the pandemic, believes President Bonomi when he says that in 2021 we will have growth “higher than what has been declared. I believe we will break 5%. I am very optimistic right now. The conditions are all there if we know how to exploit them well ». «It’s a good season, we will have a longer restart than last year. Foreigners are starting to return, but above all we do not stop in September because we leave to never stop ”, underlines the Minister Garavaglia.

Federturismo: expected results between 52 and 59% compared to 2019

Marina Lalli, president of Federturismo, places between 52 and 59 percent the “turnover” expected from national tourism in 2021 compared to 2019. And she explains this with the fact that more than five good months have now been lost and that June, traditionally , it is not a month of great holidays. In any case, Lalli notes, “there is a significantly good restart”. “We are in great need of optimism for the recovery because we have suffered so much, in tourism in particular. We are really looking forward to this rebirth, ”he adds. According to Federturismo, there are for now all the seaside resorts on the shields, with Puglia in great shape, while the cities of art still suffer since, Lalli observes, we have “only Italian tourists traveling, significantly less foreigners, and Italians, by tradition, do not travel to cities of art in the summer ». “We notice the first arrivals of foreign tourists but the real recovery will take place in September”, comments Heinz Beck, starred chef, in the parterre of the Vespa forum.

Emiliano: yes to the restart but with caution

«Last year Puglia was the region that made the Italian tourist record – recalls the governor Michele Emiliano -. We are working to resume tourism in the spaces that the pandemic leaves us. The technique we use is always the stop and go. Nothing is armored, we are vaccinated, but we need caution, manage the pandemic while keeping an eye on the Indian variant, and promote tourism with great respect for the suffering people have suffered. However, it is certain that the turning point has arrived, there is also greater confidence in organizing events and meetings ». “Unfortunately, it took the pandemic to understand what the value of tourism was, what important impact it had for cities like Florence and Venice, but also to guide the ruling class to promote the establishment of a ministry for tourism”, comments Rocco Forte, at the head of Rocco Forte Hotels. Yet, adds Forte, “as a tourist destination Italy is the best in the world“.

Garavaglia: the importance of the digital leap

Well the scenarios, well the forecasts, now, however, there are things to do. “We need to make our country make a leap and the leap is linked to digital,” Garavaglia argues, outlining the organizational change on which we are aiming to give Italian tourism more competitiveness and attractiveness. For Garavaglia, the ministry, which has returned after many years, is already a step forward with respect to the fragmentation of competences and interventions on the matter between Regions and the State. Now there is also the database that photographs the national accommodation offer as a whole while previously there was only for individual regions, and in this portal “a family, when they go to a site, rather than to a hotel or apartment , he subscribes. This allows you to keep track of everything ». “And the tracked data will allow us to make targeted offers, to distribute the tourist flow throughout the year, and even better geographically, and to reduce illegal activity”, observes Garavaglia, who proposes an agreement to large operators.
