The Corolla Cross will also arrive in Europe, the crossover that Toyota has already listed in some markets from 2020 and which in Europe will also be available with the version equipped with the fifth generation hybrid system, thus completing the offer of the Japanese manufacturer for vehicles with high wheels and in the C segment.
The Corolla Cross is in fact part of the Corolla family which is historically the best-selling car in the world, with over 50 million units since 1966, and has dimensions similar to the C-HR (4.46 meters in length against 4.39), but it has a much more familiar character. The goal is to capture that clientele that needs space and practicality more than a style that has been successful, but has also divided the public with its bold lines from high-wheeled coupe. At the moment there is no data on the volume of the trunk, but there will be the electric tailgate and the panoramic roof.
However, the Corolla Cross is anything but conservative in terms of content, starting with the digital instrumentation with 12.3 ”display, for the first time in a Toyota. The infotelematic system has a more powerful processor, a 10.5 “screen, the Toyota Smart Connect package for services and lets you interact through the MyT app to remotely control some on-board functions such as air conditioning programming and opening and closing the doors. It has Carplay wireless and Android Auto still “wired”, but it can be updated over the air in this too.
And the driving assistance systems can also be updated over-the-air so that, in addition to affecting the calibration of those present, they can have others during the life of the car going, in all likelihood, even beyond the autonomous driving of level 2 guaranteed by an already high level initial endowment. There is in fact a new pre-collision system that includes low speed acceleration limitation, incoming traffic assistance, approaching vehicle detection and turning assistance.
The sensors control the traffic on the sides and also transversely (front and rear) by activating automatic braking and keeping the trajectory on the track while the adaptive cruise control acts as a stop, governing the stopping and starting of the car. There is also the perimeter vision system, automatic parking and there is also the central airbag, to better protect the occupants in the event of a side impact.
