TURIN (ITALPRESS) – On Friday 7 May, Luigi Ksawery Luca ‘, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia, presented the Toyota Mirai to the Vice President of the Piedmont Region, Fabio Carosso, to the Councilor for the Environment, Energy, Innovation and Research, Matteo Marnati, to the Councilor for Delegation and Simplification, Maurizio Marrone and to the Councilor for Budget and Productive Activities, Andrea Tronzano. The Toyota Mirai, launched on the market in 2014, is the first mass-produced hydrogen-powered electric sedan, with over 11,500 cars sold globally and now in its second generation. It is an electrically powered car, developed on the basis of the Full Hybrid Electric system, in which electricity is generated on board the car thanks to the electrochemical reaction of hydrogen with oxygen present in the air. The result is a car that goes beyond zero emissions since, in addition to having water vapor as the only exhaust product, it now has a filter that is able to clean the air while driving. of high-voltage lithium-ion battery that guarantees greater yield and superior environmental performance compared to that of the first generation in nickel-metal hydride. The new Mirai is born on the modular GA-L platform, the fuel cell system has been completely redesigned with significant reductions in the size and weight of all the main components, the result is a driving range increased by 30% for a distance of up to 650 km. It is a very pleasant car to drive, very quiet and refueling in less than 5 minutes. All figures comparable to those of a conventional car, without any kind of compromise. “We watched with interest the presentation of this model – declared the Regional Councilor for the Environment, Research and Innovation, Matteo Marnati, on behalf of all the Councilors present – also because the Piedmont Region has been focusing for some time on hydrogen to promote zero-emission mobility, while at the same time contributing to the growth of companies through research and technological development. This is why we are working on the definition of a regional strategy for hydrogen. And for this reason, together with the City of Turin, we presented the candidacy, supported by the most important stakeholders in the sector, to host the National High Technology Center for Hydrogen “. “I thank the Vice President Carosso and the Councilors Marnati, Marrone and Tronzano for their availability at this meeting, which gave us the opportunity to discuss a topic on which we are both very sensitive, that of hydrogen, aware of the potential that it can have in terms of environmental, economic and social sustainability – declares Luigi Ksawery Luca ‘, CEO of Toyota Motor Italia. Toyota is focusing a lot on hydrogen as it will be key in the process of de-carbonization of energy consumption and the achievement of objectives set at a global, European and national level. For this reason – continues Luca ‘- for many years we have been developing all the electrified solutions of the propulsion systems, including hydrogen fuel cells. An example of application is represented by the Toyota Mirai, now in its second generation, which today we had the pleasure of presenting to the representatives of the Regional Council. – that in order to take concrete steps forward towards the diffusion of hydrogen, the collaboration of public and private companies and institutions is essential, and for this reason we are absolutely available to share our skills and our technology in projects that go in this direction “.
