ROME (ITALPRESS) – The highly anticipated GR 86 made its debut at a joint online event between Toyota Gazoo Racing and Subaru Corporation. The latest sports car from Toyota completes the GR range, which includes the established GR Supra and GR Yaris, and is proposed as the third global GR model. The new GR 86 inherits the key driving pleasure characteristics of the GT86, launched in 2012 and which has sold over 200,000 units worldwide. It is expected to be the lightest four-seater coupe in the segment thanks to a series of weight-saving measures, such as the use of aluminum for the roof and body panels. Powered by a new lightweight engine with four horizontal and opposing cylinders, the GR 86 boasts an increased displacement to 2.4 liters and overall higher performance than the GT86. The dimensions of the new GR 86 are very similar to those of the GT86, allowing the new model to maintain a low center of gravity and greater agility. Torsional stiffness has been increased by approximately 40% over the GT86 to offer even better handling and steering precision. Functional aerodynamic components, such as front air ducts and side skirts, have been developed as a result of the car’s participation in various competitions, helping the GR 86 achieve best-in-class handling and stability.
