Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , , and other sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, it was down 0.18%.
The best performers of the session were Melrose Industries PLC (LON: ), which rose 3.12% or 4.30 points to trade at 142.10 at the close. Meanwhile, Rio Tinto Group (LON: ) added 2.27% or 135.00 points to end at 6,091.00 and British Centrica Group (CENTRICA) (LON: ) added 2.04% or 1.70 points to end at 84.88 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON: ), which lost 3.53% or 56.50 points to trade at 1,542.50. Rightmove PLC (LON: ) was down 3.40% or 20.20 points to end at 573.60 and Ocado Group PLC (LON: ) was down 3.22% or 30.60 points to 920.80 at the close.
On the London Stock Exchange, 1,132 stocks fell, outnumbering gainers by 727, while 441 stocks were unchanged.
Gold futures August options contract prices rose 0.44% or 8.05 points to $1,851.75. As for the rest of the futures, the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract fell 0.75% (0.89 points) to $117.61, while the August London Brent crude oil futures contract fell 0.41% (0.49) to trade at $119.02.
GBP/USD was up 0.45% at 1.26, while EUR/GBP was basically flat at 0.39% at 0.85.
U.S. dollar index futures were down 0.03% at 102.42.
