Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and other sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, it was down 0.25%, hitting a near March low.
The best performers of the session were Standard Chartered Bank (LON: ), which rose 3.49% or 20.20 points to trade at 599.60 at the close. Meanwhile, HSBC Holdings plc (LON: ) was up 3.48% or 17.50 points to end at 520.40 and Ferguson Plc (LON: ) was up 2.61% or 234.00 points to end at 9,186.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Ocado Group PLC (LON: ), which lost 10.84% or 95.40 points to trade at 784.60. Rentokil Initial PLC (LON: ) was down 4.23% or 20.00 points to end at 452.40 and Ashtead Group PLC (LON: ) was down 4.02% or 153.00 points to 3,651.00 at the close.
On the London Stock Exchange, 1,296 stocks fell, outnumbering gainers by 605, while 382 stocks were unchanged and unchanged.

Gold futures August options contract prices fell 0.98% or 17.95 points to hit $1,813.85. In the rest of the futures, the July delivery WTI crude oil futures contract fell 0.59% (0.71 points) to trade at $120.22, while the August Brent crude oil futures contract in London fell 0.35% (0.43) to trade at $121.84.
GBP/USD was down 0.94% at 1.20, while EUR/GBP was up 1.24% at 0.87.
U.S. dollar index futures were up 0.11% at 105.08.
