Unipol challenges Telepass, a new electronic toll operator is on the field

The Unipol insurance group enters the telematic toll market and launches the Telepass challenge, just at the moment when the historic service that allows you to pay motorway tolls without stopping at the toll booth sent a letter to its subscribers announcing a substantial increase in tariffs. The Bolognese insurance company, reads a note, has announced the launch of Unipolmove, a device that will allow you to pay the toll electronically, on the model of Telepass, as well as allowing the payment of a series of services related to mobility. such as fines, car tax, parking, Ztl and refueling.

Unipolmove therefore breaks the Telepass monopoly that lasted a quarter of a century, since the first electronic toll service in Italy – 51% controlled by Atlantia, the Benetton family holding company, and 49% by Partners Group – was introduced by the Autostrade group in 1997. To date the only alternative to Telepass, but only for heavy vehicles, was represented by the system developed by Dkv.

Significant cost differences

Unipol, the first company in the motor TPL market in Italy, will be able to leverage the underwriters of its policies to promote Unipolmove, which will be offered free for the first six months and subsequently at the price of one euro per month, almost half of the rent. annual Telepass, which rose after the last increase to around 22 euros a year.

“We are the first operator to have obtained certification with the new European regulation for the European electronic toll service. Thus, with the strength of our 10 million auto insurance customers to whom we can offer the product, we have entered a market where until yesterday there were no alternatives ”, explained the Chief Beyond Insurance Officer of UnipolSai, Giacomo Lovati. The new service expands Unipol’s offer in the field of mobility where the insurance company is already present also in roadside assistance and rescue services, in maintenance and direct repair of damage, in long-term rental and in the sale and purchase of used vehicles with its own online platform.
