Core inflation, excluding the more volatile components represented by food and energy prices, advanced by 6.8% on an annual basis, less than the + 7.1% expected. On a monthly basis, the rise was just + 0.2%, at the low of 2021.
Analysts interviewed by Bloomberg had predicted an acceleration in the stronger producer price index, equal to + 0.6% on a monthly basis and + 8.7% on an annual basis.
