US inflation: production price index soars by 8.6% to a record since 2010. But core inflation is more under control than expected

In September, US inflation measured by the producer price index rose by 8.6%, less than the + 8.7% expected by the consensus but accelerating compared to the + 8.3% expected by analysts , reaching the highest value since 2010. On a monthly basis, the increase was + 0.5%.

Core inflation, excluding the more volatile components represented by food and energy prices, advanced by 6.8% on an annual basis, less than the + 7.1% expected. On a monthly basis, the rise was just + 0.2%, at the low of 2021.

Analysts interviewed by Bloomberg had predicted an acceleration in the stronger producer price index, equal to + 0.6% on a monthly basis and + 8.7% on an annual basis.
