Usa: discriminated against blind, Uber will compensate one million and 100 thousand dollars

NEW YORK. Uber was ordered to pay $ 1.1 million in compensation for banning a blind woman and her guide dog from getting into one of the transportation service cars. On 14 occasions, Lisa Irving, a California resident, was not allowed on board due to the presence of her pet. “I felt humiliated,” the woman commented in a video statement, “embarrassed, frustrated and marginalized.” Irving had asked for $ 324,000 in damages, plus another 800,000 in legal fees and other costs related to the civil lawsuit. The arbitration rejected Uber’s defensive version, which claimed it was not responsible for the behavior of its drivers, not being legally employed. A spokesperson for the app said he disagreed with the ruling, but also reiterated that one of the company’s guidelines is not to prohibit the passage of animals.
