Viticulture, Crea participates in the Oenomed project

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Is it possible to produce biodynamic wines with a view to environmental sustainability, maintaining the flavors and tastes of the Mediterranean typicality and at the same time developing a quality brand for SMEs in protected areas, which makes them competitive on international markets? This is the goal of the Oenemed project, which aims at the qualification and promotion of SME wine chains in the protected areas of the Mediterranean, enhancing the specificities of the territory and adopting green process and product innovations. All this will be discussed in the international press conference for the launch of the project, organized by the Chambre National Syndicale des Producteurs de Boissons Alcoolisêes, which will take place on May 20 in Tunis. Oenomed is a cross-border cooperation project supported by the Eni Cbc Med program, which brings together 4 Mediterranean countries, Tunisia, Italy, France and Lebanon through 12 research institutes, on the themes of viticulture and protected areas. Crea participates with a team of researchers coordinated by Pasquale Cirigliano of Crea Viticulture and Enology. The pressure of consumers, increasingly aware of the environmental challenges of the wine sector, the demand for organic wines and so-called “green” wines and the requests for green policies, are orienting producers towards more ecological organizational and production methods, pushing SMEs in the sector to focus on sustainability and quality also due to the impossibility of competing in quantitative terms with large wineries. Oenomed will help wine-growing SMEs to become “green”, supporting them to benefit from the unique natural qualities and characteristics of the Mediterranean protected areas. This support will manifest itself concretely through the implementation of technological and organizational solutions capable of improving the efficiency, quality and sustainability of production with the aim of building networks of Mediterranean companies in the wine sector and defining common commercial strategies, exploiting the environmental networks of protected areas.
