Volkswagen Artemis, Porsche withdraws from the electrics project with automated driving

by admin

Porsche withdraws from the Artemis project, which was supposed to give life to a new electric flagship developed together with the Audi and Bentley brands within the Volkswagen group. The production of which would have taken place in the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles plant in Hanover. As a result of the withdrawal, Porsche will have to pay compensation of approximately € 100 million in compensation to the Group’s light commercial van division. The three luxury electric cars were part of Audi’s Artemis project, which is creating new technologies for highly automated driving EVs. Porsche executives, however, felt that the brand, whose customer base is mainly made up of buyers looking for high performance, does not need the advanced autonomous driving features that the Artemis project would have introduced. Hence the pressure on the group to have its version built in a Porsche plant and the consequent withdrawal from the project. To give the anticipation, some company sources to the German media
Automobilwoche, according to which Porsche will now build its electric flagship, known internally as K1, at its plant in Leipzig, Germany, starting in 2026. The new model will therefore not be based on Audi’s Artemis “platform”, but will use the Premium Platform Electric architecture developed jointly by Porsche with the Ingolstadt manufacturer. The platform was further developed by Porsche to support the upcoming all-electric version of the Macan SUV and an electric Panamera slated for 2024 or 2025 at the latest.
