Positive signals are coming from the WHO on the Omicron issue. “There are no indications that the new Omicron variant causes more severe forms of Covid-19 and there is no reason to doubt that current vaccines protect patients infected with the new variant.” This was stated by Michael Ryan, head of emergencies at the World Health Organization, in an interview with AFP.

“We have very effective vaccines that have been shown to be potent against all variants so far, in terms of disease severity and hospitalization, and there is no reason to believe that this is not the case,” Ryan added, while pointing out that the studies on the variant detected only on November 24 and since then sighted in about 40 countries are only at the beginning.
