With BBBell, ultra-broadband reaches the small towns of Piedmont and Liguria

by admin

BBBell accelerates on the digitization of the Public Administration of the small Municipalities of Piedmont and Liguria which will immediately have an Internet connection up to 100 Mega available. With the project “My Municipality is digital” presented today in streaming mode by the Turin-based company leader in the North West in the wireless and fiber optic telecommunications sector (28 thousand customers), the digital divide will be partially bridged in these areas. The initiative will be largely financed by the same company and will reduce the costs that weigh on the Public Administration. The project is unique in its kind and is aimed at accelerating the digitization process of Public Administrations (Municipalities, Mountain Unions, Hills Unions, Schools, Multiutility, Bodies with public participation) in advance of existing national plans, making 100 mega symmetrical ultra-broadband connectivity available immediately and guaranteed on wireless or fiber technology. Each municipality may allocate the service to one or more local authorities that are part of the municipal infrastructure network, admitting schools, libraries and so on to the project.

The initiative will concern 1,300 realities in the area that still lack broadband. In particular, Piedmont is the region that has the largest number of small municipalities under 5,000 inhabitants. It counts 1,047, that is 18.96% of the national total and 88.65% of the total of Municipalities of the Region (for a total of 1,254,705 inhabitants). Liguria has 183, equal to 78.21% of the total number of municipalities in the region (for a total of 236,571 inhabitants).

BBBell bears the investment costs for the construction of the network as well as most of the costs for the transport of the band, allowing the Piedmontese and Ligurian municipalities that request it, to have an ultra-fast line at extremely accessible economic conditions.

The amount allocated for these investments will be over 3.5 million euros to co-finance ultra-broadband up to 100 Mega.

The project will have a duration of 24 months and will allow the municipalities concerned to be equipped with the connection within a maximum of about 3 weeks from the start of the procedures.

BBBell has estimated that each municipality will be able to digitize itself with an initial investment not exceeding 5,000 euros.

“Our commitment – Simone Bigotti, CEO of BBBell said during the presentation – stems from the desire to open new perspectives and possibilities for people, companies and communities, developing increasingly powerful and widespread networks that allow us to bring ultra-broadband for connectivity anywhere independently and sustainably in a short time. BBBell will in fact be able to guarantee the connectivity service to every single Municipality after a variable time of about 20 days from the advancement of the request, without having to wait for the timing hypothesized by the BUL plan ».

The ultra-broadband will be provided on FWA – Fixed Wireless Access technology (via radio waves) on WLL licensed frequencies where there is currently no optical fiber. BBBell also plans to automatically migrate to the Open Fiber network as soon as it is made available in the areas still uncovered by the fiber cable service.

«We have decided to do something towards the territories in which we operate and where we represent a point of reference for users and in which we have built a strong link with the Public Administration – said Bigotti -. We are convinced that digitization will bring benefits to all the activities in these territories and that it will create a virutive driving force for everyone ».
