Zonin celebrates 200 years and renews the management

by admin

Zonin1821, the winery of the Zonin family, now in its seventh generation, celebrates 200 years of life. And it does so by completely renewing the management, starting with the CEO Pietro Mattioni – formerly Campari and Illy – flanked by the three brothers Domenic (president), Francesco and Michele (vice-presidents) Zonin. After the collapse of Banca Popolare di Vicenza, Gianni Zonin had entrusted his three sons with the shares first and then the management of the family business. Since 2018 the company has been 36.1% owned by 21 Invest, of the Benettons.

The front lines of management have also been renewed, with more than one international engagement, especially in the marketing sector. A choice in line with the business directions of an increasingly internationalized company, which collects 84% of its turnover abroad. The United States, in particular, accounts for 37% of Zonin1821’s business, followed by Great Britain with 17%, an undecided growth market despite the logistical and regulatory difficulties imposed by Brexit.

With 190 billion euros collected in 2020, the Zonin group is the fifth largest wine producer in the country. In addition to the Venetian vineyards, Zonin1821 has over the years acquired seven historic estates around Italy plus one in Chile and one in Virginia, in the United States. Prosecco is now one fifth of the wine produced, so much so that the company is at the forefront, alongside Zaia, in the battle for the defense of the Doc from Croatia’s attempt to have the traditional mention of Prosek registered in Europe.
