Returning to the automotive sector, «in this sector the applications were further behind than in other fields such as medicine and safety. For the automotive industry, in fact, a complete and capillary network is needed, which is currently under development. Otherwise, in order to build the smart stadium, the entire network does not need to be ready, only the stadium; for a medicine application in a hospital only this area needs to be covered. For these reasons, it will take at least two years to see an application such as autonomous driving, and not even in a uniform manner throughout the territory ”.
The first applications in the automotive field will instead be in ports and industrial areas. «One of the prevalent applications – adds Fedele – is called Private network, or rather creating a dedicated 5G private network within delimited areas. It does not rely on the standard 5G network coverage that we will use with mobile phones but on a private network built and built for the purpose. In other words, there will tend to be many small private networks in industrial areas ».
