ROME – It is certainly not a heresy to say that the BMW i3 premium electric compact is a car for “popes”. An example of the latest version of the eco-friendly all-electric car, with a rigorous shiny white livery, has just been donated by BMW Italia to Pope Francis, just before the traditional general audience. The sober handover ceremony took place in the presence of the Holy Father, Nicolas Peter, member of the Board of Directors of BMW AG and head of Finance of the BMW Group and Massimiliano Di Silvestre, president and CEO of BMW Italia. Maximilian Schoeberl, executive vice president of communication, politics and corporate of Bmw AG and Stefan Hofer, CFO of Bmw Italia were also present on behalf of the Munich company.
“The company that I have the honor and privilege of presiding over has decided to donate a BMW i3 to the Holy Father because it testifies to our holistic and circular approach to sustainability – said Massimiliano Di Silvestre – It is in fact a fully electric car that is at the forefront in terms of environmental impact both from the point of view of the use of clean energy in the production phase and the responsible use of resources, up to recycling at the end of its life cycle. A car perfectly in tune with what the Pontiff indicated in his encyclical «Laudato si ‘» concerning the protection of the “common home”, our planet ”. (maurilio rigo)
