Xinhua News Agency, Berlin, February 16 (Reporter Zhang Yirong) The awards of the main competition unit of the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival were announced on the 16th. Among them, the Spanish-Italian co-production “Alcalás” won the Golden Bear for Best Picture.

“Alcalás” tells the story of a family of fruit farmers in Catalonia, Spain, who are threatened with eviction because their land is being used for other purposes. The jury said in the award speech that the film won the award because of the outstanding performance of the actors and the family warmth and sense of humor displayed in the film.

The Silver Bear Award of the Jury Prize at this year’s film festival was awarded to the South Korean film “Novelist’s Film”. French director Claire Dennis won the Silver Bear for Best Director for “Double-Edged Sword”.

German actress Meltime Kaptan and Indonesian actress Laura Basuki won the Silver Bear for Best Lead and Supporting Actor for their films “Kurnaz v Bush Jr.” and “Past, Present, and After,” respectively. The Silver Bear Award for Best Screenplay and the Silver Bear Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution were also presented that night.

The 72nd Berlin Film Festival opened on the 10th and will last until the 20th. A total of 18 films participated in the competition for various awards in the main competition unit of this film festival. Despite the enormous pressure of the new crown epidemic, this film festival has resumed some offline activities.
