Artissima restarts in Controtempo with 154 galleries to be “touched”

by admin

TURIN. Today Artissima opens its doors to the public: until Sunday at the Oval visitors will be able to get lost among the proposals of 154 galleries, which follow the common thread of the concept of counter-time. Yesterday, however, the entrance to the fair was reserved for VIPs, collectors (mostly Italians and Europeans), and professionals. Among the stands there was for example the top model and actress Eva Herzigová, Giovanna Caruso Fendi together with her daughter, the stylist Kristina Ti, who every year buys a work for her daughter at Artissima and will do so until she reaches her 18 years of age. .

There were Sarah Cosulich and Fernanda Lessa, top model, showgirl and disc jockey, who fell in love in particular with a work: “The Thing in the Chest” by Cao Yu from the Urs Meile gallery. «In the image the artist is holding the heart of a buffalo with a tattooed tiger – says Lessa -: I like it because it is a wish to have the strength of a tiger in the heart. Before, I didn’t understand contemporary art, now I haven’t missed an edition of the fair since 2014 ».

An edition has never been lost, not even Patrizia Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, who yesterday bought some works and commented on the restart with great enthusiasm: “There is a lot of energy, a lot of attention from the gallery owners for the quality, the curation and the exhibition – he says – Artissima knows how to interpret the present, and among the stands there is a great return to painting ». The return to manual skills is in fact very present in this edition, and in part it is a response to the pandemic. “There are many works produced in 2020 – says Ilaria Bonacossa, director of Artissima – and since the artists have lived a lot alone and with a digital contact with the world, at the fair there is a return of the works of porcelain, fabric, there are embroidery. While for years there has been the desire to make videos, photographs, to push the world towards an innovative and technological dimension, now there is a need to get back to work and physically produce art ».

Painting is par excellence the easiest investment in contemporary art, and this happens above all in moments of great crises. Among the works not to be missed in the event, there is that of Richard Long “Human Nature”, made with flint stones similar to those used by the primitives for their arrows, and another of his beautiful untitled work made with the mud. There is the reconstruction of a chiringuito by Radamés «Juni» Figueroa with beers and canned tuna, and also works by Michelangelo Pistoletto and Julião Sarmento at the Giorgio Persano gallery.

Today Artissima opens at 12, and at the Meeting Point of La Stampa there are four appointments scheduled, including the meeting with the mayor Stefano Lo Russo (who already visited the fair yesterday) who will be interviewed at 19 by the deputy director of La Stampa Massimo Righi to talk about the relaunch and prospects of culture in Turin.—
