PALERMO – At the Greek Theater of Syracuse the classic performances return with Euripides’ “Bacchantes” directed by Carlus Padrissa, “Coefore” and “Eumeni” by Aeschylus, directed by Davide Livermore, and “Le Nuvole” by Aristophanes directed by Antonio Calenda. The Inda Foundation has scheduled three unreleased productions for the 2021 season that aim to renew classic drama through the gaze of great contemporary artists and partially re-propose the 2020 program canceled due to Covid. Season 56 is scheduled from 3 July to 22 August and includes two returns and a debut, that of the Catalan Carlus Padrissa, one of the founders of the Fura dels Baus, a company celebrated worldwide for its ability to rewrite the language of contemporary theater.

After the success of Euripides’ “Elena” in 2019, back to Syracuse Davide Livermore, with the second and third act of Aeschylus’s Oresteia, Coefore and Eumenidi, a co-production with the National Theater of Genoa decided to commemorate the centenary of the resumption, with the same title, of classical performances at the Greek Theater after the Great War and the epidemic of Spanish. An interactive exhibition of vintage photos will be dedicated to this event, exhibited in the headquarters of the Inda from summer 2021 to winter 2022. Antonio Calenda finally returns, who will direct the «Le Nuvole». Euripides’ Iphigenia in Tauride, directed by Jacopo Gassmann, is rescheduled in 2022. From 29 April it will be possible to book and convert tickets purchased in 2020 to attend the shows scheduled for this year.
