Nomadland

Among the novelties also stands out the winner of the Oscars, winner of three statuettes, including best film and best director: «Nomadland» by Chloé Zhao.

Adapted from the book of the same name by journalist Jessica Bruder, the film tells the story of a woman left alone, who has recently lost her husband and her job. He will leave his city to cross the United States in a van, making the acquaintance of many other people who, out of desire or necessity, find themselves forced to live outside social conventions. The third feature film by the talented Chinese author, «Nomadland» is a highly topical film, which combines important contents with a highly appealing aesthetic, a bit clever but equally evocative. The path of the character played by an excellent Frances McDormand (awarded with the Oscar for Best Actress in a leading role) is engaging and there are passages of great emotional strength.A must-see film also to discover the talent of Chloé Zhao and wish, if there has not yet been the opportunity, to recover also his previous works.

My Name Is Adil

Finally, a recommendation for another work to see, recently arrived on Prime Video: «My Name Is Adil».

It is an autobiographical debut, signed by the director Adi Azzab who chose to stage his life, starting from when he was little and lived in the Moroccan countryside, forced to look after the flock of an authoritarian uncle.

Adil will crown his dream of arriving in Italy, but he will soon understand that staying in our country will be less simple than expected and the melancholy for his homeland will soon begin to be felt. First moving and sincere work, “My Name Is Adil »Has some unripe passages in the staging but it can be easily forgiven considering how the film manages to involve and touch the right chords. A committed film with a spontaneous air, which has some very suggestive sequences on its side, starting from the one in which Adil, as a boy, discovers electricity thanks to a light bulb.
