The Beijing International Film Festival·31st College Student Film Festival Launching Ceremony was held on April 20th at the Time Museum in Dongcheng District, Beijing. The event, co-sponsored by Beijing Normal University, Beijing Dongcheng District Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Dongcheng District People’s Government of Beijing, aimed to showcase the talents and creativity of young filmmakers.

During the ceremony, Yu Junsheng, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, emphasized the importance of the University Student Film Festival as a platform for the youth to express themselves through film. The theme of this year’s festival, “Light gives birth to all things, shadows paint a new chapter”, reflects the hopes for young filmmakers to shine in the film industry.

Xiao Xiangrong, executive deputy director of the Organizing Committee of the 31st Beijing International Film Festival and the 31st Undergraduate Film Festival, outlined the activities planned for this year’s festival. The focus is on returning to the essence of film, carrying forward the youth atmosphere, establishing an academic position, and serving young students.

The festival will showcase over 34 outstanding domestic films as part of the “Light and Shadow Youth” unit. These films will be screened at more than 50 colleges and universities across the country, with awards such as “Youth Film of the Year” and “Youth Honors” to be announced at the annual “Youth Night” event.

Special sessions during the launching ceremony included dialogues with young filmmakers on industry trends, technological innovation in film creation, and balancing emotional resonance with audiences. The event also marked the release of the mascot Xiao Feihu’s new 3D digital image, symbolizing the growth and development of Chinese filmmakers.
