Presented today in Turin, at the Porto Urbano – Murazzi del Po, the XVIII edition of the Salone Off, the great book festival widespread in the districts of the eight Circumscriptions of the City of Turin, in various municipalities of the Metropolitan City and in some cities of the Piedmont Region .
Among the international authors present: Jokha Alharthi at the Mausoleo della Bela Rosin, Jennifer Egan in Ivrea, Cal Flyn at the Golem Library, Alain Friedman in Chieri, Amitav Ghosh in Settimo Torinese and Novara, the director Werner Herzog at the Castello di Rivoli and at the Museum Nazionale del Cinema, Anilda Ibrahimi at the Polo del ‘900, Tom Kuka at the Intercultural Center, Jean-Claude Mourlevat at the Alliance Française, Andrés Neuman at the Bodoni bookstore, Cardinal Dieudonné Nzapalainga will be at the Sermig Arsenale della Pace, Frank Rose at the Holden School.
The charge of the Italians

The projects
Special projects are also returning, such as Voltapagina, a project of civil and social commitment that will see the presence of Fabio Bacà, Jonathan Bazzi, Andrea Donaera, Giorgio Fontana, Vincenzo Latronico, Sacha Naspini and Manuela Valenti in Piedmontese prisons; “Il Ballatoio” which will gather around the inhabitants of a suburban condominium reading ‘A private matter’ by Beppe Fenoglio, with the final evening in the company of Margherita Fenoglio; “Pages in the ward”, an initiative that provides for the organization of readings aloud, this year in two hospitals, by volunteers of the Universal Civil Service.
Three special events
Among the numerous appointments this year, three major events will take place on Friday: «Alessandro – a song for the life and works of Alessandro Leogrande», a special show born from the collaboration between the Koreja Theater, will make its debut at the Casa del Teatro Ragazzi and Giovani of Lecce, the Turin International Book Fair and the Fondazione Teatro Ragazzi e Giovani Onlus, in memory of the writer and journalist from Taranto engaged in the defense of the rights of migrants and in the battles in favor of the least of the Earth; in the garden of Spazio 211 there will be the special event ‘Collection of moments … with Marco in the heart’, a meeting, a party and a tribute to Marco Mathieu accompanied by the music and images of Negazione who will present their latest book; while the docu-fiction ‘Arnoldo Mondadori – The books to change the world‘, which explores the human and professional life of one of the most important pioneers of the Italian publishing industry, will be previewed in room One of the Massimo cinema, thanks to Anele and Rai Fiction, with the support of the Turin Piedmont Film Commission and the National Cinema Museum.
Exhibitions and walks
An opening towards the world of verses with ‘Poets tell poets’, a short review of themed meetings, hosted by the Holden School, and consisting of three events that will take place on Thursday, Friday and Sunday (among the guests Valerio Magrelli and Maurizio Cucchi). The program of the Salone Off ranges from walks – such as the artistic ones with three illustrators from Bao Publishing «The sky over Turin is full of clouds» or the mathematical one with Silvia Benvenuti – and exhibitions set up in the frame of the event, including «More modern of every modern. The geographies of Pier Paolo Pasolini by Bruno Zanzottera ”, which will be inaugurated on Wednesday at the Polo del ‘900, and moments of homage to writers or artists, such as Vasilij Grossman, Luis Sepúlveda, Sergio Atzeni and Macario.
Collaborations
The appointments are distinguished from each other both geographically and in terms of content, thanks above all to the collaboration of libraries, bookshops, neighborhood houses, universities, museums, theaters, cinemas, youth centers, clubs, companies, businesses, shopping centers and even cemeteries . Furthermore, for this edition Italgas, with its new Heritage Lab, and Torino Outlet Village will be partners of the Salone Off 2022 and promoters of some meetings.
