Botanical Garden of Oropa and Upb join forces: the culture of green is born from the “Green school” project

by admin

The Botanical Garden of Oropa, in collaboration with Upb Educa, presents the program for the second semester of the “Green School” project which aims to “spread the culture of greenery and plants at 360 °”. The path, which started last summer amidst many difficulties linked to the health emergency, is part of the educational and training activity of the garden, but with a more structured formula, thanks to the support of the Popular University.

Supported by a regional tender with the contribution of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, the project is linked to paths aimed at continuous training and flexible learning. «We are inspired by the Anglo-Saxon model – explains Fabrizio Bottelli, director of the Botanical Garden – where not only the protection of greenery, but also the idea of transmitting knowledge linked to its care, are deeply rooted. The intent is to transmit knowledge and practical skills, not only among professionals “.

The courses that take place in the Upb classrooms at Palazzo Ferrero al Piazzo, at the Burcina di Pollone Park and at the Oropa Botanical Garden, are divided into two educational lines: basic courses, in which curious and simple enthusiasts can approach the theme and deepen some of it wait, through classroom lessons, visits and practical activities (recognition of plants, advice for their garden or garden); courses with teachers and trainers also from the University of Turin, aimed at professionals and experts who can broaden their skills on botany, agronomy, history of gardens, landscape architecture.

Fabrizio Bottelli does not hide the difficulties in organizing initiatives like these and in the management of the garden itself. «We are confident and optimistic – he comments – but perhaps, as a territory, we should believe more in the importance and potential of greenery, not only in terms of protection, but also of development. Our business continues, also thanks to the sensitivity of the Crb Foundation that supports us, but we would really need a stronger and more convinced entrepreneurial action, the same that made the Biellese famous in the textile sector. Sometimes I wonder why it cannot be applied equally effectively in other sectors. I think it would be enough to believe in it with greater conviction ».
