Disrupting factors aside, “Breakthrough” itself has many remarkable points, and it is still a rare “breakthrough” work focusing on “state-owned enterprises” in the current market. In an interview with a reporter from Beijing Youth Daily, Zhou Meisen said that the creation of realistic film and television works must dare to face social contradictions. “The truth is the life of the work. Beiqing Daily: How long has the original work been prepared?
Zhou Meisen: During the filming of “The Name of the People”, the novel “Breaking Out” began and it took more than half a year to finish. This time I focused on the subject of the transformation of state-owned enterprises because my parents, brothers and sisters are all in state-owned enterprises. I grew up in this environment. This is a subject that I am very interested in, and I am familiar with it when I create. Characters like Lin Manjiang, Shi Hongxing, and Qi Ben’an have been in my mind for a long time. I should say that this is a work that I wrote smoothly.
Beiqing Daily: “The Name of the People” was a huge success. Will it put pressure on this creation?
Zhou Meisen: There is no pressure. As a writer, I cannot accept “repetition of routines”, “Breakthrough” is not a case-driven work.
Beiqing Daily: After the film and television, which parts are more abundant than the text?
Zhou Meisen: When adapting the TV series, it should be said that Yaoke Media did its best to create this drama by bringing together the most outstanding creators and actors that had schedules in China at that time. Especially the performance of the actors is very wonderful. What I want to mention in particular is that Yan Ni’s performance shocked me. She played the role of Shi Hongxing very well.
For the role of Shi Hongxing, I asked the film crew to choose Yan Ni to play the role. What I want to portray is the image of an emotional and pyrotechnic heroine, rather than a stereotypical, one-sided, coldly stereotyped image.

Zhou Meisen: No. When I was creating, I did research on some major state-owned enterprises. I did not write about a specific company, but integrated the stories of various companies and integrated various characters. After all, this work is not documentary literature.
Beiqing Daily: Have you considered evading sensitive issues and details in the creative process?
Zhou Meisen: My work touches social reality, and I strive to tell the truth in my creation. Truth is the life of the work. If the subject matter of reality becomes “good people and good things”, the people will not like it.
