On March 15, the movie “Brilliant Her” starring Hui Yinghong and Liu Haocun was released. Huiying, a red-haired actress, wrote a long post to share her feelings about the filming.

In the film, the kind and tolerant grandmother Jiang Xiuzhi (played by Hui Yinghong) reunites with her granddaughter Xu Jiayi (played by Liu Haocun) who was accidentally lost 12 years ago. The grandfather and grandson have gone from being estranged to relying on each other. As they get along, their secrets are gradually revealed. In the end, grandma saved this “granddaughter” who had no hope in life.

Hui Yinghong revealed: “I received the script for the first time in September 2021. I shed tears when I read this story. The emotions between Grandma Xiuzhi and Jiayi really touched me. I was also deeply infected by Jiang Xiuzhi’s optimism and freedom.”

She said that her mother had suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, and her later state was very similar to Jiang Xiuzhi in the play. It is precisely because of this experience that Hui Yinghong felt more deeply about the role of Jiang Xiuzhi, and incorporated some details of her mother’s illness into the character, hoping to make the character more real and hope that the audience will have a better understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. There is more understanding and therefore more attention to be given to Alzheimer’s patients and their families. Hui Yinghong said frankly, “Taking care of patients is actually very hard and not easy.”

“I hope everyone will like this love-filled story and gain some of the power of laughter in life from this story. Because it is not only Grandma Xiuzhi and Jiayi who are brilliant on the screen, but also everyone outside the screen. I wish everyone can be as brilliant and bloom in their own lives,” Hui Yinghong wrote.

Wai Ying-hong played the role of Aunt Fen, a dementia patient, in the 2016 movie “Lucky Me” and won the Best Actress at the 36th Hong Kong Film Awards.
