The Brunello and Federica Cucinelli Foundation, the Archdiocese of Perugia and Eni gas and light have announced a project for the restoration of the facades of the Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Perugia. The interventions will benefit from the so-called “Facade Bonus” established with the budget law of 2020, and will be carried out thanks to the financial support of the Brunello and Federica Cucinelli Foundation and Eni gas and light that with the CoatMio project, in addition to carrying out the works with its partners , will purchase the credit deriving from the 90% tax deduction envisaged.

The works started on July 12 will concern the conservative restoration of the front and side facades, the external staircase and the bronze monument to Julius III. There will also be interventions of cleaning of the stones, removal of some cement inserts applied as joints between the stones in old restorations that will be replaced with materials and methods compatible with the principles of conservative restoration and the historical-artistic importance of the monument.

The Cathedral of San Lorenzo in Perugia

“When, in all these past years – underlined Brunello Cucinelli – I happened to pass by our beautiful cathedral, I couldn’t help but marvel at its majesty and beauty and I always thought about the day when I could do something to protect it. for those who come after us. This day therefore celebrates for me the realization of a beautiful dream, that of a restoration strongly desired by the sensitivity of my friend, Cardinal Bassetti, guaranteed by the experience and wisdom of our new Superintendent, Elvira Cajano, and made possible by the professionalism of Eni gas and electricity and the Family Foundation, with sincere and great love for Perugia. John Ruskin said that the custody of monuments is an act of high morality and respect for history, and it fascinates me to think that in this case what we are keeping is a very high symbol of art and the spirituality of a whole people ».

In 2014 the Cucinelli Foundation also financed the restoration of the Etruscan Arch of Perugia, with 1.3 million euros, and in 2017 that of the Morlacchi Theater, to which one million euros was allocated. Recently the company also announced the sale of a maximum of 646 thousand shares to finance a new project for the village of Solomeo, where its headquarters are located, a work that Cucinelli himself defined as “a thousand-year project”.
