Cameras on scooters, goodbye sidewalks

by admin

ROME – Hard times are announced for the monopattists unruly. The Swedish company “Voi”, which specializes in urban mobility and sharing, is about to install cameras on board its vehicles that can view when the user gets on the sidewalk or when he leaves the scooter in a wild way. All thanks to an Artificial Intelligence technology developed by Luna, a technological startup of micromobility.

The project will take its first steps in Northampton, where a small number of people hired by you will test the effectiveness of the cameras. The task of computer vision technology will be to detect the places that the scooter is traveling at that precise moment, whether it is a road, a sidewalk or a cycle path. In the latter two cases, the system will send a signal to warn of the infringement.

Once this first phase has been completed, we will move on to the actual project, also in Northampton, during which 100 cameras will be installed on as many scooters. In the event of an infringement or inappropriate driving, in addition to the acoustic signal, the scooter will automatically slow down its ride avoiding endangering other road users.

“With computer vision, scooters can be trained to see and recognize dangerous situations,” explains Fredrik Hjelm, co-founder and CEO of Voi Technology. “This experimentation will set new safety standards for this new form of transport.” (fp)
