Car insurance, prices rise again

by admin

The prices of compulsory insurance for all vehicles are rising again. An important figure, which also marks, however, higher costs for the motorist, even if pre-Covid levels are not yet reached. These are the data that emerge, according to the “Facile.it” Motor TPL Observatory. In fact, it seemed that in May the TPL premiums should still fall, after the minimum record, but in July the upward trend began. Last month, an average of € 457.04 was required to insure a four-wheeler, 0.2% more than in June. The good news is that, despite the very slight increase, premiums are still significantly lower (-12.6%) compared to a year ago. The data emerges from the analysis of a sample of over 9,100,000 estimates and related quotes collected by Facile.it over the last year. “The gradual, albeit slight, increase in the last two months is the beginning of a trend that can only continue in the long term”, explains Diego Palano, General Manager of Facile.it “With the return to normality in terms of mobility and the increase in the number of vehicles in circulation – and with it that of accidents – an upward adjustment was foreseeable; it remains only to understand how fast the adjustment will be ”.

The regional trend

Comparing the average TPL cost of July 2021 with that of July 2020, an interesting fact emerges: the drop in prices was recorded, albeit to a different extent, throughout the country. Leading the ranking of the most consistent drops is Piedmont, an area where the average values fell by 17.98% compared to the same month of 2020. Lombardy follows in the ranking, which recorded a decrease in the average rate of 16.39. % and, slightly detached, Liguria, where the average motor liability premium fell by 16.38%. In the last place of the national ranking, however, is placed Basilicata, which recorded a drop in average tariffs equal to 4.82%.

Campania always the most expensive

In terms of absolute values, the black jersey of Italy is confirmed to be Campania; in the region, in July 2021, to insure a four-wheel vehicle, an average of € 839.39 was required, ie 83.6% more than the national average. Calabria, which wins second place with an average prize of € 526.87, and Puglia, on the third step with an average value of € 511.08, follows on the podium of the most expensive areas of Italy. If we look, however, at the regions where insuring a vehicle costs less, the most fortunate are the residents of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an area where, last month, to protect their car, an average of € 315.06 was required. Following is Lombardy, where the average premium recorded in July 2021 was equal to 344.28 euros and, not far away, Trentino-Alto Adige, with a rate of 350.39 euros. Given the probable increases that could affect the TPL insurance market, the advice of the Facile.it experts for all those who have an expiring policy is to renew it now while the premiums are still far from pre-Covid levels. It should also be considered that many companies, to meet the needs of their customers who asked for a refund for the months of restriction in which the car was unused, have introduced specific discounts and initiatives that can still be taken advantage of.

The ancillary guarantees

Looking at the choices of motorists regarding ancillary guarantees, it emerges that in July 2021, among those who have included one in the estimate phase, the most requested is roadside assistance (39.9%). The data can also be read by virtue of a car fleet that continues to age; last month the average age of Italian vehicles was just over 11 years, an increase compared to that recorded in the same period of 2020 (10 and a half years). The most requested accessory guarantees are followed by driver accident coverage (19.3%), legal protection (16.8%) and theft and fire guarantee (11.9%).
