Car: more than two months to choose it, three and a half years to pay for it

by admin

It takes Italians at least two months before deciding to buy a car. Then, once chosen, they pay it in installments, in an average time of three and a half years. Men spend more than women (31%). These are some of the data that emerged from the survey commissioned by Facile.it and MiaCar.it to the research institutes mUp Research and Norstat and conducted on a representative sample of the national population.

Looking more closely at how motorists dealing with the purchase of a new vehicle behave, it emerges that the fastest to choose it are the over 65s; perhaps because more experienced and with clearer ideas, for them it is enough, on average, less than 1 month and a half. Perhaps the availability of a fixed and secure budget also affects.

For opposite reasons, however, the slowest are under 24; it may be because they are struggling with the purchase of their first car, and therefore want to avoid nasty surprises, but young people need on average more than 3 months of research before finding the right vehicle to buy. For them there is also the problem of having enough money to buy.

How much is spent on the car

According to the survey results, Italians, on average, budget about 13,800 euros to buy a car, a value that rises to over 17,000 euros if it is a new vehicle (17,373 euros), while for those of second hand, just over 7,000 euros (7,343 euros) are enough. However, there are those who spend much more: according to the survey, there are almost 2 million Italians who have paid over 30,000 euros for their car. There is a clear difference between men and women; the former spend, on average, € 15,534, or 31% more than the latter (€ 11,839). In general, those willing to pay more for the new car are the respondents aged between 35 and 44, who, on average, “commit” 15,135 euros to buy an alley; this probably happens not only because of a greater purchasing power, but also because they need a car of a size suitable for the whole family. If we look at the answers on a geographical basis, however, it emerges that motorists resident in the North East are the ones who spend the most (15,210 euros), while in the South and the Islands the average amount is 12,223 euros.

How to pay for the car

How is the car paid? In 38.9% of cases, Italians pay it in installments using a loan. Specifically, more than 1 out of 4 apply for financing directly from the concessionaire (27.4%) while 11.5% independently apply to a credit company. Those who applied for a car loan repaid it, on average, in 43 installments (just over 3 and a half years). The use of consumer credit is more widespread in the regions of Central Italy; here 43.5% of the respondents declared that they had requested a loan.

The car as a gift

Occasionally (6%) the car arrives as a gift from a family member, especially among young people aged between 18 and 24 (16.7%).
