ROME – Italian motorists like to shop online and even before the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic the eBay virtual marketplace was among the preferred solutions for purchasing products and accessories for cars and motorcycles. Undoubtedly, the health emergency has given a boost to “do it yourself” so much so that in 2020 alone there were over 6,300,000 items for cars and motorcycles sold on the famous marketplace, with a growth of 10% compared to the previous year . Going into a little more detail of this great online bazaar, it turns out that users between the ages of 45 and 64 preferred shopping on eBay, who bought almost 1,300,000 items, followed by those between 24 and 44 years old (over 1,100,000 articles) and by the over 65s, over 150,000 products.
These data underline that online purchases, even in the car and motorcycle sector, are not only loved by digital natives. But which items were the most popular on this special shopping list? At the top of the ranking of the most purchased items, therefore, tires stand out, which totaled over 300,000 pieces sold in 2020, followed by motor oils, with more than 174,000 units, and by various bulbs and LEDs, with over 166,000 sales.
It should also be noted that in the year in which we were preparing to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the “mother” of all scooters, Italian enthusiasts wanted to arrive well prepared for the historic appointment of 2021 and to be ready to worthily celebrate one of the symbols of the Italian lifestyle have purchased over 340,000 items for Vespa on eBay. Of these, the most sold were engines and transmissions, over 98,000, an increase of 30% compared to 2019 and which also reaches the fourth place in the overall ranking of the best-selling car and motorcycle products on eBay last year.
And again for the iconic Vespa, we find in fifth position the items of chassis and frames, with over 97,000 pieces, almost doubled compared to the previous year (+ 49%).
