Centenarian Mary Forsythe Celebrates 25th Birthday on Leap Day

Rui, a centenarian woman in Oklahoma, USA, celebrated her 100th birthday on February 29, coinciding with her turning 25 years old on her leap day birthday. Born on February 29, 1924, Forsythe only celebrates her birthday once every four years, as it falls on a leap year.

Forsythe, a resident of Sand Springs, spent her life enjoying hobbies such as listening to music and reading the Bible. She married her high school sweetheart in 1942 and fondly remembered singing with him in a band at local restaurants.

Despite only officially celebrating her birthday every four years, Forsythe often found ways to enjoy the occasion in non-leap years, even celebrating on her husband’s birthday if needed. She has two sons, five grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Earlier in February, a non-profit organization helped Forsythe celebrate her 100th birthday with a well-attended party. On February 29, she celebrated the milestone at a local church, welcoming guests with the simple request of no gifts.

Reflecting on her long life, Forsythe shared, “I’ll tell you, it’s a joy to be alive.” As she continues to cherish each moment, her positive outlook and gratitude for life inspire those around her.
