“Dance for a fragile mountain”, with a video art is champion of sustainability

by admin

A ballerina on tiptoe who gracefully touches the ice. A panting dancer running between stones and pebbles. A breathtaking view and the poignant music of a cello. These are some of the frames of “Passo a due – Dance for a fragile mountain”, the video promoted by the Vercelli Cultural Association Freebody, directed by the director Matteo Bellizzi and supported by the Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli Foundation, the Province of Vercelli and the Municipality of Courmayeur. «A project with a double soul, Aosta Valley and Piedmont: an artistic action to raise awareness on the issues of climate change and sustainability – says Daniela Tricerri of Freebody -. Mont Blanc and Monte Rosa give life to an unprecedented “two step” where the dancers, relating to the environment, are able to bring a message of harmony and beauty to the peaks and glaciers through a slow and respectful movement that becomes an elegy and, at the same time, a poignant request for help ».

The video sees the participation of the dancers Lorenzo Belviso of Mestre and Veronica Piccolo of Reggio Emilia, winners of the Helen Nathan Loro Piana prize in 2019 and 2021, to the notes of the Roman cellist Piero Salvatori: “This video wants to reconnect humanity with nature through art and beauty – says director Matteo Bellizzi -. The images collected with the drone are of great impact: the movements of the dancers highlight the fragility of the mountain and the step of the ice that retreats more and more. Dance, music and performance can help us see small lights in the dark, signs of life, meanings rediscovered through the language of the body and beauty. Bringing dance to the mountains does not mean considering the landscape as theater or backdrop, it means putting man back in relationship and closeness with nature ».

The images shot between Valle d’Aosta and Valsesia are the first step of a larger project: “There is a documentary film in support of the alpine glaciers in danger that will be completed in spring 2022 – says Bellizzi -, with the idea of bringing attention to the issues of climate change and sustainability through various forms of art and culture ». The video is on the website of the Association www.freebodydanza.it on the page «project step by step».
