Do you want to resell the car? That’s how much color matters

by admin

ROME – If you buy a car with the intention of reselling it within a few years, to avoid premature depreciation of used vehicles, you know which brand and model make the difference. But now a study reveals that even the color of a car can significantly affect its resale value. For example, contrary to what is commonly thought, among the cars that hold the least price there would be black and white ones, while those with bright colors, such as yellow and orange, would resell at a higher price.

It seems strange, but this is what emerged from a recent analysis by the automotive research firm iSeeCars, which examined over 700 thousand ads of used cars traded between 2017 and 2020, all categorized by color and segment. Certainly, the “rarity” aspect has also played an important role in assigning a potential greater market value to a yellow, orange or red car, given that the vast majority of those on the road are black, silver or white.

The fact is that, among the 13 colors examined by the study, the most ‘bright’ ones are the best in maintaining the value of the second hand. At the top of the ranking are the yellow cars which, compared to the value of the new one, are the least depreciated in three years (-20.4%). Orange cars (-27.1%) held their market value well, compared to the more popular green (-31.3%) and gray (-36.4%) cars. Even the red ones (-36.9%) in three years have depreciated less than the blue cars (-37%) and the silver ones (-37.6%).

According to the study by iSeeCars, beige cars (-22.8%), placed in second place after the yellow ones, hold the price. The colors most subject to devaluation of the used car price include white (-38%) and black (-38.4%), followed by purple cars (-41.2%), browns (-42.1%). %) and gold (-45.6%), at the bottom of the ranking.
