The Foo Fighters announced today (March 26) that drummer Tyler Hawkins has passed away at the age of 50. The band released the following statement: “The Spitfire family is devastated by the tragic and untimely death of our beloved Tyler Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on in our hearts forever. Our hearts go out to his wife and children. A moment of silence with the family and hope that their privacy can be treated with the highest respect during this difficult time.”

The band’s message did not give the cause of his death.
The band is currently in Bogota, Colombia, playing stadium shows in London, Birmingham and Manchester as part of a tour to the UK this summer.
Hawkins joined the band in 1997 after touring with singer Alanis Morissette, one of the biggest stars of the ’90s.
When former member William Goldsmith left, he called frontman Dave Grohl — himself a former drummer for the band Nirvana — to start a 25-year career.
