ROMA – The future is also this: a system called DS Smart Access thanks to which the authorization to access your car comes from your smartphone. No keys to open or to start the engine. the cell phone does everything using the Bluetooth transmission protocol, therefore even without the GSM network. When the car is unlocked, the retractable handles magically pop out, and only then is it possible to get into the DS 9 E-Tense and press the power button.
This unique feature also paves the way for a shared car, with the ability to authorize five other users. From the MyDS app it is in fact possible to delegate and authorize access and starting the car to another smartphone, if necessary also defining a specific time slot.
The French sedan also comes with other innovations, such as Driver Attention Monitoring, with which the attention threshold and the driver’s signs of fatigue are constantly checked. An infrared camera is installed above the steering wheel, while another is located in the upper part of the windshield: both have the task of constantly monitoring the driver’s eyes to detect fatigue, analyzing the blink of the eyelids, the orientation of the gaze and the head movements. Thanks to infrared technology, detection takes place even in the dark and while wearing sunglasses. At the same time, the system follows the car’s trajectory with respect to the lines of the road, analyzing the driver’s deviations or braking stresses. Basically, any loss of attention, given by non-linear and imprecise movements, or the closing of the eyes is detected promptly. Even looking at the smartphone screen is interpreted as a loss of attention, activating an acoustic signal and a visual alert on the central display.
