ROME – The word ad Other consumption, who conducted a trip to Europe analyzing the results from north to central Italy, to take stock of the results of green mobility in the beautiful country. The project, carried out between October and January, funded by the European Climate Foundation, aims to understand what are the current obstacles to electric mobility in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Belgium. The journeys made have highlighted some aspects to be improved in order to fully exploit the potential of zero-emission mobility, showing what are still the sore points for owners of cars on tap: recharging
Few fast-charging stations in the city
“The time required for recharging is often too long”: this is the main critical issue in the boot, according to the Association. “The most common charging columns take 2 to 6 times longer to recharge the car than columns high power – they explain – and the latter are still too few: only about 7% of the columns have a power greater than 42 kW. There is a need for more fast charging stations in the city too.
Motorway electrical infrastructure not suitable for long journeys
As for the motorways: “they should be equipped with fast charging stations in every service area”. Not that the need for new infrastructures was new, but Other consumption underlines the need to have a power greater than 50 kW and possibly also support ultra-fast recharges at 150 kW, to also allow spare parts between motorists and therefore always free stations. The risk for those who set out on the road is in fact to remain dry even by opting for secondary roads. “No area must be cut off and it is not acceptable that there are more than 50 km between one column and the next”.
Suppliers and payments: little interoperability and clarity
A single card for all infrastructures and suppliers: in Portugal it is normal, in Italy it is not, and it is a problem for those who travel through several municipalities and regions. “Consumers are forced to create accounts with two, three or more suppliers to be sure they can use all the columns that are part of the national infrastructure”. Payments, then, should be “practical and simple in every country in Europe. and can also be carried out with traditional methods, such as credit cards or debit cards, or cash “, comments the Consumers’ Association.
On the tariffs front, he concludes Other consumption, “clear information must be guaranteed” while for applications “greater interoperability is needed, so that the user is not forced to use multiple apps in order to access clear and precise information relating to all the columns in the area”.
Better to have the private wallbox
Results for which in the meantime it would be good to promote and simplify the installation of private recharging points by giving, for example, access to public funds to install private or shared columns. Second Other consumption to date, in fact, “the best way to use an electric car is still to charge it when it is parked for a long time”.
