Electric cars, the battery that recharges in 5 minutes is a reality

by admin

We know that one of the reasons that hinder the take-off of electric cars is the time of recharging. So beware, we could be close to the turning point: Desten, a battery company founded in 2015 in Hong Kong, has just announced an important novelty: ultra-fast charging in less than 5 minutes. More precisely, the company claims that its batteries can be recharged from 0% to 80% in 4 minutes and 40 seconds.

In essence, the prototype battery and the electric vehicle are ready to charge up to 900 kW, which is about three times the maximum power of the cars currently available (270 kW for the Porsche Taycan).

Obviously Desten doesn’t explain the details, but his batteries are expected to be used in the Piech GT, the first Swiss electric car that is expected to debut in 2024 and have a 75 kWh battery and therefore a 5-minute recharge capacity. The autonomy of this car would be 150 km.

The Chinese company worked on both the materials used for the battery and the cell structures, adopting new chemical compositions and developing specific production lines. Because of this, Desten’s batteries maintain high thermal stability and are extremely resistant to overheating, allowing them to withstand much more powerful recharges.

The Chinese have obtained from external bodies the certification that the battery, even under stress, never exceeds the external temperature of over 15 degrees centigrade. This earned him, for example, the UN 38.3 safety certification. Another advantage of these batteries, an even more effective regenerative braking.
