ROME – The French magazine AutoPlus has tried to draw up a ranking of electric cars with the longest distance on the motorway. That is, the travel situation which remains among the most “energy-intensive”, both for the higher consumption due to the higher speed, and for the absence of energy recovery during braking. Another commonplace that AutoPlus research has taken into consideration, and partially dispelled, is that relating to autonomy which is proportional to the purchase price. This circumstance occurs only in premium models such as the Tesla, which in the ranking of the twenty electric cars with the most autonomy takes first place with the Model S Long Range with almost 427 km on a single battery charge. The sports Porsche Taycan with 476 hp and the Audi e-Tron GT with 530 hp follow, which on the motorway offer a mileage of 407 and 388 kilometers respectively.
Scrolling through the ranking we find in fourth, fifth and sixth place the more accessible Tesla Model 3 Long Range with 440 hp (379 km), Skoda Enyaq iV with 204 Hp (379 km) and Ford Mustang Mach-E Extended Range with 294 Hp ( 374 km). The more than satisfactory performances are also recorded by the 204 Hp (368 km) Volkswagen ID.4 Pro Performance, 204 Hp electric Hyundai Kona (355 km), 204 Hp Kia e-Soul (340 km) and Kia e- Niro always with 204 hp (338 km).
A quartet with a not prohibitive price that precedes the more noble Tesla Model X 100 D with 422 Hp (338 km), Audi e-Tron 55 Quattro with 408 Hp (335 km), Jaguar I-Pace EV400 with 400 Hp (302 km) and Mercedes EQC 400 4Matic with 408 HP (296 km). The 286 HP (284 km) BMW iX3, the 204 HP (278 km) Volkswagen ID.3, the 217 HP (276 km) Nissan Leaf e + less common Airways U5 with 204 hp (268 km), and the compact Renault Zoe R135 with 135 hp (250 km) and Opel Corsa-e with 136 hp (223 km).
In any case, even in the lower steps of the ranking drawn up by AutoPlus, the performances recorded on the motorway are more than two hundred kilometers. Historically, since the beginning of the transition, one of the biggest obstacles to the mass diffusion of battery-powered vehicles has always been autonomy. The anxiety of remaining “dry” highlighted in many surveys carried out among motorists is still one of the reasons that push users to remain anchored to traditional endothermic engines. But now we have some more information to be able to choose.
