Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel played a “Kaos Rhapsody” with color structure space at Shanghai Jiushi Art Space. The “Kaos Rhapsody-Spanish Artist Okuda San Miguel Art Exhibition” opened the day before yesterday is Okuda’s first exhibition in Shanghai, exhibiting nearly 20 representative works, fully presenting the artist’s different styles and themes Artistic creation.

The segmented geometric shapes and color elements are Okuda’s unique artistic symbols. The former transforms the original two-dimensional plane into a three-dimensional space, presenting a sense of sculpture in a three-dimensional space; the latter integrates the diversity of different countries, races, and genders, symbolizing the existence of human beings as a unity. The forms of bird-headed man, horse and dove have been repeated in Okuda’s works. Dove and horse represent peace and freedom, which are also the subject of the artist’s pursuit. In “Kaos Rhapsody”, the audience can not only enjoy an “organic” space constructed by various paintings, sculptures, mixed media works, installations and interventions, but will also become a part of the works.

Okuda used his artistic language to create a new sense of space in the historic buildings on the Bund. The 6-meter-long “Afro Head” installation, a huge installation lying on the ground, makes the audience tilt their heads involuntarily, thereby “forcibly” changing the viewing habits of the public in the exhibition space and prompting people to change their viewing methods. At the same time, it also changed the perspective of thinking. This chain reaction between works, space and audience reflects a new relationship between “seeing and being seen, display (exhibition) and bearing (exhibition space)”, which is exactly the visual world constructed by Okuda The most distinctive and powerful part of it.

In the work “Kaleidoscope Tunnel”, Okuda uses saturated colors to create iconic images of flickering and separation, presenting his past creations, including the glyphs used in the initial stage of creation, and the geometric patterns formed by long-term accumulation and evolution. Through the continuous changes of patterns, a space with a kaleidoscope view is formed, and visitors entering it are like entering the heart of a kaleidoscope.

Ma Zhenzhen, the person in charge of the exhibition project, introduced that many of Okuda’s works were completed indoors, allowing different art forms to resonate with the building. Therefore, he is very good at creating in the building. The title of the exhibition is also a traditional Spanish religious site. Okuda completed his famous work in it, spreading harmony and peace through culture.

It is reported that this exhibition is connected by the artist through video, specially created according to the needs of Jiushi Art Space, in a special location in the corner. There is a jigsaw puzzle of a quadruple painting. The display method in other art galleries is mostly flat, but Jiu Shi Art Space changed it to form a bend. “The vision did not bring any discomfort, but only changed the way we look at it. “It is reported that in the future, Jiushi Art Space will display more solo exhibitions of artists, forming a functional separation from the Jiushi Art Museum not far away.
