NOVI LIGURE. A piece of the history of Novi Ligure is gone, another historical memory of this city. The city mourns Francesco Melone, 94, engineer, with a passion for history. He was president of the Novese Historical Society, collector of ancient coins. Tall, white hair a little tousled, like a man of science, and with a smile that conquered.

Passion for history, but also for sport. He was a sports manager, awarded the bronze star of Coni, and honorary president of the Novese section of the Union of Veterans of Sport. Union of veterans of sport which through its president Piero Montecucco dedicates an affectionate memory to him: «The Novi Ligure section of the UNVS mourns its honorary president Francesco Melone. Your unexpected and swift death leaves a great void between all of us. We thank you for your teaching. Hello Franco”.

A reminder of his figure also comes from the mayor of Novi, Gian Paolo Cabella, in a post on Facebook: «Novi today greets one of the greatest disseminators of the history, art and culture of the city. In September we were able to appreciate his magnificent collection of coins at the exhibition set up in the Library as part of the Exchange Fair Festival in Novi.

We met a few days ago on the occasion of the celebrations of November 4th, where with tenacity he remembered and honored the fallen of the war. Rest in peace dear Francesco, we will treasure everything you have left and we will pass on to our children and grandchildren important pieces of the history of Novi that thanks to you we have been able to reconstruct and document ».
