In the USA, Joan Didion, the writer and essayist true icon of post-war North American culture, died at the age of 87. A leading exponent of New Journalism, Joan Didion at one point turned to fiction. In “The Year of Magical Thought” she recounts two events that turned her life upside down, the sudden illness of her daughter Quintana and, almost simultaneously, her husband’s death from a heart attack.
«Life changes quickly», Joan Didion will write when she talks about how her life was crushed but also about the attempt to get back on top and deal with so much pain.
